After many years of teaching the violin, I have developed a comprehensive method of using the lesson time effectively to build skills such as
· Phrasing and Interpretation
· Ensemble and Solo Performance
· Sight reading,
to name a few of the many areas where musicians must excel.
Listening is also a vital tool with which we can learn faster and with more comprehension, so listening to many interpretations of the music students are preparing is imperative and informative.
Students use a metronome for rhythmic accuracy, but I also have them devise their own rhythms using a drum. Basic theory can be learned through chord studies on a keyboard during the in-person lessons, and by studying scores of music to understand its structure. Students can begin to compose their own music after some basic understanding of theory.
